This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for the submission of abstracts is quickly approaching (24 February !!!!).

It would be appreciated if you could submit your abstract before our meeting on Tuesday 18 February so we have a better idea of the number of people submitting.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

(Deadline: 24 February 2025)


The Working Group on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), Climate Change, and the Environment of the ICH NGO Forum, that brings together 264 NGOs accredited by UNESCO under the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, invites researchers, practitioners, and community members to submit abstracts for articles to be included in a forthcoming book publication. This book will focus on the safeguarding of ICH in the face of climate change, highlighting diverse impacts and reactions from communities around the world.

Theme and objectives

The book aims to explore and document the various ways in which communities are affected by climate change and how they are responding to these challenges. Intangible cultural heritage can itself be directly threatened and therefore must be safeguarded, and it can also be leveraged and mobilized in an active manner to effectively help communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from climate change. We seek to map these diverse situations and develop indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of different strategies through the sharing of local experiences and initiatives. The primary objectives are to:

  1. Assess the current state of ICH among communities impacted by climate change ;
  2. Evaluate the efficiency of community-based strategies in mitigating the impacts of climate change on ICH ;
  3. Analyze the capacity of communities to adapt their ICH practices to the changing climate ;
  4. Document climate change mitigation of communities through their low carbon practices;
  5. Develop indicators for mapping and evaluating the effectiveness of these strategies;
  6. Foster the sharing of local experiences and initiatives to enhance collective knowledge and action;
  7. Envision policies and action plans to safeguard and / or use living heritage in climate action.

 

Focus Areas

We encourage submissions that address, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  1. New theoretical approaches to safeguard Intangible Cultural Heritage in the face of climate change;
  2. Innovative methodologies for mapping the state of ICH, adaptation strategies and efforts to use it in situations of crises;
  3. Cases studies of community-driven initiatives to safeguard ICH against climate change:
  4. Impact of climate change on the propagation of invasive pests, new diseases and the traditional medicine of communities ;
  5. Traditional ecological knowledge and its role in climate adaptation ;
  6. Development of indicators to assess the effectiveness of safeguarding measures ;
  7. Policy approaches for integrating ICH safeguarding in climate action plans, including human rights-based approaches.

Length : 400 to 500 words

Content: All abstracts should include a concise title of the proposed article, the full name of the author with affiliation and contact information (email and mailing address), the aims of the article, the methods used to gather data and assess impacts, a summary of the key findings, insights and/ or expected outcomes.

 

Publication details and timeline

Selected articles will be published in a book that will serve as a resource for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners working at the intersection of ICH and climate change. APPEL À RÉSUMÉS

 

Le Groupe de travail sur le patrimoine culturel immatériel (PCI), le changement climatique et l'environnement du Forum des ONG du PCI, qui rassemble 264 ONG accréditées par l'UNESCO dans le cadre de la Convention de l'UNESCO pour la sauvegarde du patrimoine culturel immatériel de 2003, invite les chercheurs, les praticiens et les membres des communautés à soumettre des résumés d'articles qui figureront dans un livre à paraître prochainement. Cet ouvrage portera sur la sauvegarde du patrimoine culturel immatériel face au changement climatique, en mettant en lumière les divers impacts et réactions des communautés du monde entier.

 

Thème et objectifs

L'ouvrage vise à explorer et à documenter les différentes façons dont les communautés sont affectées par le changement climatique et comment elles répondent à ces défis. Le patrimoine culturel immatériel peut lui-même être directement menacé et doit donc être sauvegardé, mais il peut également être exploité et mobilisé de manière active pour aider efficacement les communautés à se préparer au changement climatique, à y répondre et à s'en remettre. Nous cherchons à cartographier ces diverses situations et à développer des indicateurs pour évaluer l'efficacité des différentes stratégies à travers le partage d'expériences et d'initiatives locales. Les principaux objectifs sont les suivants

  1. Évaluer l'état actuel du PCI dans les communautés touchées par le changement climatique ;
  2. Évaluer l'efficacité des stratégies communautaires pour atténuer les effets du changement climatique sur le PCI ;
  3. Analyser la capacité des communautés à adapter leurs pratiques de PCI au changement climatique ;
  4. Documenter l'atténuation du changement climatique par les communautés grâce à leurs pratiques à faible émission de carbone ;
  5. Développer des indicateurs pour cartographier et évaluer l'efficacité de ces stratégies
  6. Favoriser le partage des expériences et des initiatives locales afin d'améliorer la connaissance et l'action collectives
  7. Envisager des politiques et des plans d'action pour sauvegarder et/ou utiliser le patrimoine vivant dans le cadre de l'action climatique.

 

Domaines d'intervention

Nous encourageons les soumissions qui abordent, sans s'y limiter, les domaines suivants

  1. Nouvelles approches théoriques pour sauvegarder le patrimoine culturel immatériel face au changement climatique ;
  2. Méthodologies innovantes pour cartographier l'état du PCI, les stratégies d'adaptation et les efforts pour l'utiliser dans les situations de crise ;
  3. Études de cas d'initiatives communautaires visant à protéger le patrimoine culturel immatériel contre le changement climatique :
  4. Impact du changement climatique sur la propagation d'organismes nuisibles envahissants, de nouvelles maladies et sur la médecine traditionnelle des communautés ;
  5. Les connaissances écologiques traditionnelles et leur rôle dans l'adaptation au climat ;
  6. Développement d'indicateurs pour évaluer l'efficacité des mesures de sauvegarde ;
  7. Programmes gouvernementaux visant à intégrer la sauvegarde du PCI dans les plans d'action pour le climat, y compris les approches fondées sur les droits de l'homme.
